- It was pretty much life as usual for my family and me
until we learned in early 1998 that my father had a spot
on his pancreas, found somewhat by accident while he was
in the hospital for a matter that was totally unrelated.
It was determined that he had a rare, slow-growing form
of cancer (whew) and that the cancer would be unlikely
to kill him (double whew). As time went on and we watched
him grow more thin and frail, however, we found less and
less comfort in this prognosis. On October 7, 1999, my
mother returned home from a consultation with Dad’s doctor
in the afternoon to find Dad’s breakfast still on the
table and him gone in the other room, probably from sudden
heart failure or an aneurysm secondary to the cancer.
He was 64. It was shortly thereafter that I stumbled into
this group and found some of the kindest people I will
ever meet in my life. I find it a miracle that I count
among my best friends my fellow grievers here, many of
whom I have yet to meet face to face. It is my hope to
help carry on the spirit of compassion, hope, and comfort
that was and is freely given me so that I may do my part
to help others in the healing process.

- In October of 2000 my 17 year old cousin was killed
in a drunk driving accident. We had a close bond and it
devastated me and all who knew her. I did a grief search
online and was led to some wonderful people who accepted
my grief and understood how I felt. Not quite five months
later in March 2001, my beloved father died suddenly but
not unexpectedly after a long battle with emphysema and
COPD. My life had turned upside down once again. Thankfully
my online angels were here to give me strength and help
me realize I wasn't alone. I want to thank them all and
wish to give back some of the love, understanding and
compassion that was given to me.
